Dana is Jordan’s largest nature reserve, covering some 320 square kilometers of spectacular mountains and Wadis along the face of the Great Rift Valley. From scorching sand dunes in the west to cool mountaintops in the east, the Dana Biosphere Reserve is home to a great variety of wildlife. 

There are plants and animals characteristic of true desert, of Mediterranean forests and of the dry plains of Russia. In fact, Dana is really a melting pot of species from three continents: Europe, Africa and Asia. Such a combination of natural communities in a single area is unique in Jordan and many of Dana’s animals and plants are very rare.

تضم المحمية نباتات وحيوانات تُشبه تلك الموجودة في الصحراء الحقيقية، وغابات البحر الأبيض المتوسط، والسهول الجافة في روسيا. في الواقع، تُعتبر ضانا بوتقة تنصهر فيها أنواع من ثلاث قارات: أوروبا وأفريقيا وآسيا. هذا التنوع الفريد في المجتمعات الطبيعية في منطقة واحدة يُعدّ استثنائيًا في الأردن، والعديد من حيوانات ونباتات ضانا نادرة للغاية

حتى الآن، تم تسجيل 700 نوع من النباتات، و190 نوعًا من الطيور، و37 نوعًا من الثدييات، و36 نوعًا من الزواحف في المحمية، منها 25 نوعًا مُهددًا بالانقراض، بما في ذلك قط الرمال، والذئب السوري، والباشق الصغير، والسحلية ذات الذيل الشوكي. بدون عناية خاصة، قد تختفي بعض هذه الكائنات من على وجه الأرض إلى الأبد، مما يجعل محمية دانا للمحيط الحيوي مكاناً ذا أهمية عالمية
