Now considered an old-world flycatcher. Breeding in open stony country in Europe and Asia with footholds in Greenland as well as in northwestern Canada and Alaska. It nests in rock crevices and rabbit burrows. . It is migratory all birds spend most of their winter in Africa.

It is 14.5–16 cm in length. Both sexes have a white rump and tail, with a black inverted T-pattern at the end of the tail. The plumage of the summer male has grey upperparts, buff throat and black wings and face mask. In autumn, it resembles the female apart from the black wings. The female is pale brown above and buff below with darker brown wings. The male has a whistling, crackly song. It is an insectivorous species.

In Jordan, it habitat in Azraq area at Al Qa’a near the wet land reserve and eastern desert.

يتكاثر في المناطق الصخرية المفتوحة في أوروبا وآسيا وكندا وجرينلاند وألاسكا ويعشش في التجاويف الصخرية. مهاجر إلى أفريقيا والأردن حيث يتواجد في الصحراء الشرقية ومنطقة القاع المحاذية لمحمية الأزرق المائية. يتغذى على الحشرات.‏

يتبع جنس الأبلق من فصيلة صائدات الذباب. يتميز بوجود قناع أسود ضيق يمتد من المنقار ويتسع خلف العينين مثل العائلة الصردية، يعلوه شريط أبيض، السطح الظهري والرأس رمادي مزرّق جميل، منطقة نهاية الذيل والأجنحة سوداء اللون، والسطح البطني (الصدر) أفتح لوناً أو وردي اللون. الذيل أبيض مع نهاية سوداء عريضة وطويلة يعلوها اللون الأبيض ومن خلاله يمكن التعرف عليه بسهولة.‏
