The Redstart is known to be a flycatcher, prefer open mature birch and oak woodland with a high horizontal visibility and low amounts of shrub especially where the trees are old enough to have holes suitable for its nest. In Jordan, it habitat woods and forests.

It shows some affinity to the European Robin in many of its habits and actions, length at 13–14.5 cm long slightly slimmer and not quite as heavy. The orange-red tail, from which it and other redstarts get their names, frequently quivered. The male in summer has a slate-grey head and upperparts, except the rump and tail, which, like the flanks, underwing coverts and axillaries are orange-chestnut. 

The forehead is white; the sides of the face and throat are black. The wings and the two central tail feathers are brown, the other tail feathers bright orange-red. The orange on the flanks shades to almost white on the belly. The bill and legs are black. The female is browner, with paler underparts; it lacks the black and slate, and the throat is whitish.

من فصيلة خاطفات الذباب، وهي من الطيور المهاجرة والعابرة، تعيش بالموائل البيئية كالأحراش والحدائق والبساتين وتتواجد بالجزء السفلي من الشجيرات ليسهل عليها مهاجمة فرائسها من الخنافس والعناكب والفراش وتعود لمكانها وهي تهز ذيلها مغردة وهذه صفة مميزه لها.‏

يتميز الذكر بلون أسود للزور والوجه بينما الصدر والبطن لهما لون برتقالي لامع. المنقار ضارب على البياض والأجزاء العلوية رمادية مزرقة. الأنثى تختلف بلونها البني بشكل كامل وأحيانا منقطه على جانبي الجسم والصدر. طول هذا الطائر من 13-14 سم. ‏

في الأردن تتواجد في المناطق الحرجية والغابات والأشجار كما في الشمال والوسط ومنطقة ضانا.‏
