An intriguing dark morph of the mourning wheatear (the so-called basalt wheatear) occurs in the basalt desert of northeast Jordan. Currently still regarded as a subspecies of Mourning Wheatear (Oenanthe lugens warriae), it is likely to be recognized as a full species in the near future. If recognized as a full species, it might become one of the rarest Western Palearctic birds, with possibly as few as several hundreds of pairs only. 

This is a wintering individual - their breeding range is in the basalt desert of southern Syria and northern Jordan. The world population of Basalt Wheatear estimated at several hundred birds at best.

يتبع جنس الأبلق من فصيلة صائدات الذباب، يعيش في الصحراء والحقول يبلغ طوله 15 سم وهي طيور زائرة شتوية.‏‎ ‎يتواجد بعدة أماكن خاصة أطراف الجبال.‏

يسهل تفريقه عن الأنواع الشبيهة من شريط الجناح الواضح والضارب للبياض عندما يكون الجناح مفروداً. مقارنة مع الأبقع فان الصدرية السوداء أصغر، والأجزاء السفلية بيضاء (في الأبقع توجد بها صبغة صفراء)، وغطائيات أسفل الذيل صفراء محمرة، وغطاء الأقدام بها نهايات بيضاء دقيقة، وشريط نهاية الذيل الأسود متساوي العرض دون امتداد واضح للون الأسود بأعلى ريش الذيل الخارجي مثل الأبقع.

يفتقد في الربيع النهايات الشاحبة لريش الحنجرة والوشاح الأسود الموجود لدى ذكر الأبقع. يفتقد اليافع الوشاح والحنجرة السوداء، غطاء الأذن سوداء، ويوجد شريط أبيض مصفر عريض على الغطاء.‏
