Common Linnet

The Common Linnet is a popular pet in Jordan and have a wide spread presence all over the country. It is a small passerine bird of the finch family. It is a slim bird with a long tail. The upper parts are brown, the throat is sullied white and the bill is grey. The summer male has a grey nape, red head-patch and red breast. Females and young birds lack the red and have white underparts, the breast streaked buff. The common linnet breeds in Europe, western Asia and North Africa.


This pratincole is 24–28 cm long with a 60–70 cm wingspan. It has short legs, long pointed wings, a long forked tail, and a short bill, which is an adaptation to aerial feeding. The back and head are brown, and the wings are brown with darker flight feathers. The belly is white. The underwings are chestnut, but look dark below. Pratincoles are unusual among waders in that they typically hunt their insect prey on the wing like swallows, although they can also feed on the ground.


Their territories vary with the group size as well the presence of neighboring groups. Groups consist of a reproductive pair and other non-breeding members who may or may not be direct offspring or close relatives. The diet of the babblers includes a variety of invertebrates (mostly arthropods), small vertebrates (lizards, geckos, snakes) and plant material, like nectar, flowers, berries, leaves and seeds.         ''';

الحسون التفاحي

الحسون التفاحي يتواجد في أوروبا وغرب آسيا وشمال أفريقيا ويهاجر جنوبا في الصيف، يحب أراضي الحقول المفتوحة والشجيرات الكثيفة للتعشيش والحصول على غذائه. يبني عشه بأغصان الشجر الرفيعة والحشائش اليابسة والصوف ويكون على شكل مجموعات قد تصل إلى خمس أزواج على الشجرة الواحدة.


يتميز بصوته القوي ونفسه الطويل. طعامه يتكون من البذور الصغيرة والمتوسطة الحجم بشكل رئيسي من النباتات الشوكية والخردل وبذور عباد الشمس والخس والكتان وبعض الأعشاب والفواكه والحشرات والديدان. ويطلق عليه اسم عصفور الحشيش لأنه يتذوق الطعم في بذور القنب. الذكر يتميز باللون البني والرمادي والأبيض في أطراف الجناحين والذيل واللون الأحمر في مقدمة الرأس والصدر بينما الأنثى والفراخ يغلب عليهم اللون الرمادي.‏


يختلف عن الخواضات الأخرى بتناول طعامه من الحشرات وهو طائر وعن الأرض.‏
