This 13.5–15.5 cm long insectivorous species is dimorphic with eastern and western races, sometimes split as eastern black-eared wheatear (Oenanthe melanoleuca) and western black-eared wheatear (which then retains the name hispanica). In both forms, birds with or without a black throat are met with.

The eastern found in the eastern Mediterranean, and migrates to winter quarters in the Sudan. In Jordan they habitat eastern desert and found scattered all over.

The male of the eastern form is even whiter in summer than the western bird, but as a rule may be distinguished by the line which extends across the base of the bill. Black-throated individuals of this race have a greater amount of black on the throat and face than on the western birds, and the black generally terminates more abruptly or in a straighter line. The female is a browner bird, but has the characteristic lower back, and her seasonal changes are less marked.

طائر صغير ينتمي لعائلة صائد الذباب يعيش في شرق البحر الأبيض المتوسط ويهاجر الى السودان وجنوب أفريقيا. يحب البيئة الصحراوية والمنحدرات الحصوية قليلة النباتات والمكشوفة. في الأردن يتواجد في مناطق الصحراء الشرقية وبعض المناطق الأخرى المتفرقة.‏

طوله من 13.5-15.5 سم ويتشابه مع الأنواع الأخرى مثل أبلق فينشي لكن سواد الأذنين والزور منفصل لا يتواصل مع سواد الجناحين والكتفين، في الصيف يكون الذكر أكثر بياضا، له تاج أبيض مصفر أعلى الرأس والمنقار والأرجل سوداء. أما الأنثى فيميل لونها إلى البني أكثر ولكنها تتشارك بتلون أسفل الظهر ولا يتغير لونها حسب الفصول. غذائه الرئيسي اليرقات والحشرات التي تنشط على الأرض وبعض الحشرات الطائرة كالبعوض. وفي هجرة الخريف يكون غذائه مختلط ما بين حشرات وبعض الفواكه والبذور.‏
